We drove out of Istria through a few long
tunnels and towards Rijeka, a large city. Passing the turnoff to Krk airport,
we pressed on towards a campsite just short of Senj.
The coastal road is pretty, with glimpses of coves beneath us, and the sea a still smooth pond; it is only 10km of water between Senj and the island of Krk.
From the large and immaculate site at Novigard, we have settled for small site which is more relaxed. Just like this little cove seen from the road above.
We drive down from the coastal road to reach this small site, 4 km north of Senj - we had picked up two hitch-hikers and we drove into Senj to drop them off where they could more easily get a lift onwards, and then came back up the coastal road since we liked the look of this place.
There are vans parked right next to the sea, just yards away. We selected a shady spot in some trees and on the grass. Not possible to get fully level, but we are happy in the shade about 100 yards from the sea, and with a nicer view from higher up.

The site has just two ablution blocks with two showers in each, but there are also a couple of outside showers to use after swimming in the sea. There are some built in barbeques but we make do with our Asda variety.
There is a tiny restaurant right on the beach and we have two large sea bream fried with olive oil and a little garlic, a salad and chips, two large beers, and coffees afterwards. All for just under a reasonable £30. The sea outside the restaurant and down the steps from us is so clear you can see the bottom, even when the depth is 12 feet or so beneath you.
We chose Senj because it is the coastal
town about 60km inland from the lakes and waterfalls at the national park
Plitvicka Selo, and someone had told us it was a nice stop. They underrated it,
and so does the camping book we are using.
