the Clutha river, Lake Wanaka

We decided to do a longer walk today - our last full day beside Lake Hawea.

We parked in Albert Town camping ground, next to the river and took a little snoop around at the weird and wacky camper vans that Kiwis adapt.

Yes, someone is definitely camping in this bus...

Then we set off on the Deans Bank track beside the river Clutha, estimated at a two hour walk.

There are great views over the river from the hill at one side.

It soon started to feel quite warm, despite the cloud cover.

The river is apparently great for fishing salmon and trout, and they are huge.

There is a mountain bike trail, and a walk of about 11km round trip towards the river outlet into Lake Wanaka, 277m above sea level.

The vegetation is sparse up at this height, and we ate our picnic lunch overlooking the river before i had a little snooze.

The walk took us a little over 2 hours, and was not too difficult.

After our picnic lunch I need a short nap....

Then when we finish our walk we head back to our place.

There was time after we came back to read a book in the hammock at the back of the house. We have been renting the lower floor, a fully self contained unit comprising bedroom, sofas, kitchen and shower room. A real little gem this place.
