selling the van

We sold the motorhome just before Easer so we could move on to the next phase of our retirement adventure. It was a bit sad to part with the van, since it had been our home away from home for two years of extended travel, touring Europe.

But we have found somewhere homely in the south of France to paint and exhibit paintings, which will keep me productive, and for Carol to sew and sell patchworks and fabrics. So this is Tim and Sandra, with Ben, taking possession of their new van, about to drive it away on the start of their own travelling adventure. It was a good feeling to see it go to a family enthusiastic about starting the motorhome experience. And the van seemed to be a perfect fit with their own needs.

With the funds from the sale of the van, we can now complete our transition to second home owners, getting a small car to keep in France. It has to be small to fit into our very compact French garage, but it also has to be large enough to carry our stuff to France, and large enough to carry canvases to exhibit in various markets in the south.

We plan on trading in my Volvo against the cost of a newish second hand French car, purchased in England, and then drive it down with all the rest of our art and sewing stocks in a couple of weeks time. So we've been looking at cars being sold from various left hand drive centres not too far from Reading, and considering what we can afford to get.
